This major art auction is being held to raise funds for Partners in Health, an organization working directly on the ground in the earthquake-ravaged country. Curators from PS1, the Studio Museum, the Warhol Museum, Neue Galerie and more are joining with young gallerists from Gagosian Gallery, Marlborough Gallery, Robert Miller Gallery and James Cohan Gallery, to name but a few, for the auction, which will take place at a star-studded event at Sotheby's NY on March 15 — complete with a concert by the legendary Patti Smith. The auction has begun with silent bidding open to the public via the Web. Place bids here.
Artists include: Dan Colen, Alex Katz, Terence Koh, Jeff Koons, Nate Lowman, Richard Prince, Lou Reed, Ed Ruscha, Stuart Semple, Kiki Smith, Patti Smith, Michael Stipe and many others.
TOOLS FOR THOUGHT draws on the will of artists to make a difference. In the spirit of Marcel Duchamp and the readymade, the efforts of Tools for Thought unite the art community in using its greatest tools ready-at-hand: the generosity and goodwill to provide aid and support to those in need.
