São Paulo : Biennial
How does it feel to be on your own with no direction home, like a complete unknown? - Bob Dylan
British artist Stuart Semple will be exhibiting 3 large canvases in São Paulo at 'Casa da Xiclet' gallery, during the São Paulo Biennial from 07 to 29 October 2006.
'For a while I've felt displaced. The nature of the artist is generally one of the stray, exploring inspiration after inspiration. Stumbling from obsession to obsession. The fading symbols of popular culture can't build you a home. Art can't keep you warm; you can't climb inside it and wrap it around you to make you feel safe. The process of making paintings for me is about finding my place within the chaos and flow of a social and visual existence. No symbol points to real satisfaction. I need to find a home or resting place for myself, within me, a contentment. The lack of this is what keeps me making, and it is exactly this feeling that I am trying to explore within my pieces for São Paulo. I want to try and capture how it feels to have no emotional 'home'.'

Behind the scenes

The forces assembled. Ellis Scott took the photos. How much can we show without giving the game away? Well, all I can say is Art Review, Power 100 issue, November.

After a crazed weekend, Nicky Biscuit colapsed outside. Once positioned he posed brilliantly.
